New water regulations for Mälaren replaced the one that was introduced in the 1940’s. Based on national nature conservation rules new water regulations should help water levels follow the seasons more ecologically.
Lower costs for an assignment
As said Stockholm City hired Caluna Ltd to assess how the changes in the water regulations could affect the shore environment around Mälaren. The assignment needed areal covering information and essential geodata was lacking. Satellite images from different time junctures
The vegetation around Mälaren was mapped by using satellite data. We used twelve satellite pictures from three different time junctures, where the water level and vegetation varied.
